Phase 2: Implementing the Model
Phase 2 of the Open Farm Development
Akamas Ranch will offer tourists and the local community a number of well-equipped facilities designed to foster eco-education, interactions with nature, and benefit to the local community and ecosystem.

Market Area
This area is open to local vendors, creators, and entrepreneurs to sell their goods and services. We will host open market days and events to boost this opportunity and create a gathering space for the local community

Ranch Stall
A friendly face is the first thing you’ll see when visiting Akamas Ranch.
-
Shop stocking locally produced products from food and drink stuffs to clothing/tourist gifts
-
Space for audio equipment for live music provided for by local artists
Restaurant
A space for local cooks and caterers to use – for events, market days, and their own ventures. We'll run a coffee shop from this space so you can always find a hot cup of coffee, an ice-cold drink, or something to eat in between your explorations of the farm. The coffee shop will be stocked with locally sourced foods and cater to both traditional and tourist taste buds.

Outdoor Entertainment Area
A space to relax on a hot summer day while your kids play, or after a long horse trek through the fields of fallow deer. Take in the beautiful landscape with a cold drink, or recuperate with a hot coffee after a relaxing spa treatment.

Community Centre
This is the heart of the Akamas Ranch community – a space for events, wellness classes, retreats, and education. The multipurpose centre is an open space for people to meet during yoga classes, art therapy, corporate retreats, or special events. Watch your friend or family walk down the aisle while birds sing over the spectacular landscape, or meet for celebrations.

Akamas Ranch has embarked on an ambitious journey towards sustainable agriculture. Under the banner of Innovative and Experimental Farming, we invite companies, locals, eco-tourists and change-makers to join us in shaping a greener, more resilient future. Our facility is a living laboratory where circular farming, Green Deal principles, and the “Kiss the Ground” philosophy meet to benefit the environment, economy, and local communities.
Our vision is simple yet ambitious: to revolutionise agriculture by aligning productivity, environmental benefit, and community well-being. We believe in creating sustainable practices that will ensure that the land we cultivate today is fertile throughout the years to come.
Here’s how we’re making it happen:
Circular Farming: Closing the Loop
-
Regenerative Practices: Agriculturalists participating in our Innovative Farming program commit to regenerative practices. We emphasise soil health, crop rotation, and natural pest control.
-
Waste as a Resource: Circular farming means nothing goes to waste. Organic matter becomes compost, and byproducts find new life as inputs.
-
Biodiversity: We encourage diverse crops, companion planting, and habitat creation to support local ecosystems.
-
Green Deal Principles: We commit to meeting and exceeding all relevant goals produced by the EU Green Deal, such as the climate action, biodiversity, farm to fork, zero pollution and circular economy goals.
-
Climate Neutrality: Our partners pledge to reduce their carbon footprint. We monitor progress in terms of CO2 soil capture—a vital metric for climate resilience.
-
Resource Efficiency: Water management is critical. Our IT system tracks water usage, promoting efficient irrigation techniques and rainwater harvesting.
-
Sustainable Energy: We educate about renewable energy options and assist our partners in adopting renewable energy practices that are suitable for their endeavours, minimising reliance on fossil fuels.
-
Focus not only on crops that will aid in the mitigation of climate change but also very importantly natural pesticides that can be developed industrially and economically.

We believe in adopting the use of advanced technology throughout our ranch to ensure well-managed implementation and transparency to all stakeholders. We believe that live and up to date reporting will aid in ensuring all stakeholders can not only be part of our development process but also feel part of our greater community.
Live feeds of our Ranch will be available so that the progress of our animals and crops can be enjoyed and appreciated. Our Intelligent Farming Solution consists of four main components, and is described below:

Sensors are deployed in the fallow deer and experimental crop farms to collect data on various factors such as:
-
growth rates
-
yield
-
product quality
-
health status
-
environmental conditions
-
economic profitability.

In Cyprus, several animal species face various threats, including habitat loss, pollution, illegal hunting, and climate change. We will focus on breeding programs and strategies for the conservation of both fauna and flora. The project aimed at increasing the population of some local endangered animals that are crucial to the local ecosystem. This will be achieved with the re-creation of biomes on the properties we have purchased.

We plan to purchase three additional properties focused on developing a wildlife reserve, based on adapting Natura 2000 properties into an integrated biome where our circular approach will focus on integrated biome development. This expansion will allow us to offer an enhanced wildlife experience whilst at the same time creating thriving endemic biomes. Importantly, this development will allow for the management and mitigation of illegal hunting in the area - a significant issue within Cyprus, and within this specific region. We will treat these properties a Conservancy.

A nature conservancy is an amalgamation of farms and protected areas that is governed by a strict nature conservation constitution and legally binds the owners to dedicate the lands identified as special conservation areas.
